Indians come through the tourism bubble, there is no racket here

The third wave of covid is rising day by day. As a result, the country is in a dire situation. Meanwhile, MP Kavinda Jayawardena had alleged that a business was being set up in Sri Lanka to allow tourists coming from India to quit and leave the country.

However, Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga says that Indian tourists come to Sri Lanka through the travel bubble system and no racket is taking place here.

According to the Minister, various restrictions have already been imposed on tourists from India. He said that in view of the current situation in India, Indian tourists visiting Sri Lanka would be quarantined in separate hotel rooms and steps would be taken to restrict the arrival of Indian tourists in consultation with India at this time.

Minister of Tourism Prasanna Ranatunga further stated that future decisions regarding the closure of the airport or the restriction of tourist arrivals will be taken in accordance with health recommendations.

He added that the airport could not be closed at once and that more foreign workers were arriving in the country through the airport than tourists and therefore Sri Lankans abroad were allowed to enter the country without any permission.

He was speaking to the media after a discussion in Gampaha yesterday (28).

Former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga also launched a travel bubble scheme in Ukraine during the second covid wave and we do not forget the events that took place there. Even Kovid sufferers came to Sri Lanka and some got into fights in hotels. Therefore, the government should take steps to prevent such incidents from happening again.
