Ali Sabri, the Minister of Justice states that as long as he is the Minister of Justice, there is no hope or intention to touch the Buddhist Temples and Shrines Act and that no action will be taken to bring laws against the hereditary rights of the Sinhala Buddhist people.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo, the Minister further stated that steps have already been taken to ban the wearing of the burqa and to amend the Muslim marriage law.
The Minister further said,
“As long as I am the Minister of Justice, we have no hope of touching the Buddhist Temples and Shrines Act. No dreams or thoughts. We all accept. This is a country with a history of 2500 years, based on Buddhist civilization. Can I bring laws against the traditional rights of the Sinhala Buddhist people in this country? I’m not that stupid. By November, Muslim law has been submitted to the Cabinet for amendment. It was decided not to cover faces in public places, not to target a single community. Thinking about the security of the country. ”
