Defense Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne has said that the current government will never take political revenge and that the country knows what people like Shani Abeysekara, who is currently in custody, have done in the past.
He said that if the new government had made political recognition after coming to power, many people today would have been in prisons and no arrests have been made for any reason other than those who have been convicted of wrongdoing.
He was speaking to the media yesterday (29) after paying homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic.
He said that the President, the Prime Minister, the government and government officials would not resort to political retaliation. He said that steps would be taken to rectify any injustice done to the victims of recent political retaliation in consultation with the Attorney General.
