Dr. Hansamal Weerasuriya, a member of the Media Committee of the Government Medical Officers’ Association said that it has taken about 12 months to identify the first 500 covid deaths but it has taken two and a half months to identify the second 500 Covid deaths.
He said it took 14 months to identify 100,000 covid patients, but it took about three months to identify the remaining 50,000 patients, thus giving an idea of the rapid spread of the virus.
Therefore, he emphasized that the spread of the virus should be curtailed in the next two weeks by imposing strict travel restrictions. He says the country could go to the abyss if the virus does not follow health advice.
He also states that the recovery rate of Covid patients is around 82.07 which is a very positive figure.
